Janaka, are you willing to help with this problem in linux mint? My wired connection to the modem worked fine, then I installed a wireless router. Now I can connect to the internet if I connect the computer to the router by cable, but not if I connect the computer to the modem or wireless usb doggle.. The wireless way worked for a few hours then quit. For several days if I tried it it would say it was attempting to join my wireless network, but never succeded. It would ask for a keyring authorization or something like that repeatedly. Now it doesn't show a network at all. I followed your advice: pinged 66.249.89.99 5 packets were sent and receieved pinged google 5 packets were sent and received Yet "the network has been disconnected" What does that tell you? I am able to send this because the computer is connected by cable to the router. I really would appreciate any advice you all could give on this. I really would like to get this resolved and get rid of that security hazard(Windows) Steve

There are many ways to fix this, but you have to identify if the problem is this first. To do this: 1. Open a console 2. Type "ping 66.249.89.99" (That pings one of the google servers). 3. Type "ping www.google.com" If 2. is successful and 3. fails your problem is the DNS issue. If so let us know, so the group can help you.
