Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since
that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some
of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently
supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly
upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect <bug #>

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Title:
Blender(2.49b) uses up swap space, crashes system

Status in blender package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: blender

  First off:

  Ubuntu release: 10.04 LTS(Lucid Lynx)
  Blender package version: 2.49.2~dfsg-1ubuntu1
  Blender version 2.49(sub 2)

  OpenGL vendor: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
  OpenGL version: 2.1 Mesa 7.7.1
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Mobile IntelĀ® GM45 Express Chipset GEM
20091221 2009Q4 x86/MMX/SSE2

What I expected to happen: Basically, nothing. I could just model as normal.
  What happened instead:

Blender, after a while(around 5 minutes), starts to slow down and use up a
large(95%) amount of swap space, while RAM usage stays below 30%. After 5 more
minutes, Blender hangs the entire system(most likely due to lack of swap
space), and I have to cold reboot to restart the system.
The problem seems to become worse if I scale/rotate.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Open up Blender(fullscreen or windowed)
  2. Add a few primitives
  3. Scale or rotate them
  4. Render them a few times, and add a few lights. Rotate them
  5. Render again

By step 3(most certainly by step 5), you should experience system
slowdown, and by step 5, Blender should hang, along with the entire
  system.

Opening the System Monitor should reveal around 95% of swap space
usage, while RAM usage is still below 30%.
