game engine segmentation fault

Bug description:
i'm using Blender 2.66 on Ubuntu Saucy 64bit.
it used to work, but i've been trying to get blender to use the ati driver.
i thought this was gonna stop blender from freezing up after starting the
game engine a few times.
but now, when i start it, it just crashes immediately with segmentation fault
(core dumped)
no further info.
anyone else have this problem?
