Allowing custom preview text is absolutely crucial for a font preview tool, and it's been something font-manager has always had. It's so easy to implement, I can't see any no reason to remove such an important feature. As FontMatrix is long since dead, there is now no way to view a custom text when deciding what font to install or use, a crucial feature for graphic design work.
