Openoffice won't open .doc files without crashing

Bug description:
Trying to open a .doc file in Openoffice Word Processor, the application
crashes, with a warning about needing to repair the file, which then endlessly
loops thru repairing and attempting to open the .doc file.
Tried this on several machines, with several .doc files. In a standard feisty
install, the problem does not exist, and OO opens the .doc files fine. Also
seeing issues when closing .html files, with a similar "crash" message.
