I'd addressed Len's answer with this: "I had installed jack just before I installed these packages and so the option to fix real time permissions wasn't available." To add to this, I have run ubuntustudio-controls and I can't see an option to "FIX Real Time Permissions", possibly because I had installed Jack before I had installed ubuntustudio-audio.
