Subject: Careers Service. Working in the UK as an international student and
graduate Thur 28th April

This is one of the very occasional unsolicited emails we send to students in
order that you don’t miss out on a topic of potentially great interest.

David Ainscough

Deputy Director

Careers Service

“Apologies if this email is not relevant to you, i.e. you don't need permission
to work in the UK once you complete your studies

Working in the UK as an International Student and Graduate- Thur 28th April ,
1pm to 2.30pm, Mill Lane Lecture Rooms, Room 1 (No need to sign up)

This briefing session (an update on a similar session run in Michaelmas 2010)
will be delivered by Frances Meegan, Careers Adviser at the Careers Service.
She will provide an overview of the various schemes under which international
students and graduates can obtain permission to work in the UK*. The session
will also consider ways in which you can enhance your employability as an
international graduate and how to promote this to employers as well as
outlining the ways in which the Careers Service can help you to do this. Due to
the factual nature of much of the information which will be covered, especially
early on in the session, you are strongly advised to arrive on time. The
session is scheduled to run for 1 hour, with additional time at the end for
questions. The session will be recorded and podcast on the Careers Service
website www.careers.cam.ac.uk . You will also find information on many of the
issues that will be discussed on our web site
www.careers.cam.ac.uk/students/international/index.asp

*If you are a non-UK national wanting to work or train in the UK - whether
vacation work or permanent employment after graduation - you need to be clear
about your status. The work permission regulations change frequently, and you
need to know where to get up-to-date information and advice if you need it.
Currently the majority of students studying in the UK can do vacation work
without needing special permission. Most nationals of member states of the EEA
(European Economic Area) can also work in the UK after graduation without
seeking permission to do so. Other nationals may need a work visa, though
certain categories are exempt.”
