Former Editor of the South China Morning Post, The Observer and senior
correspondent for The Economist, Mr Jonathan Fenby, CBE, speaks on the
economic, social and political development of China and their
inter-relationships.

Cambridge University Hong Kong and China Affairs Society proudly
presents you our speaker event 'A Dialogue with Mr. Jonathan Fenby".
Mr. Jonathan Fenby, CBE, is an experienced British Jornalist who was
formerly editor of The South China Morning Post, The Observer and
Reuters World Service as well as a senior correspondent for The
Economist. He also held senior editorial positions at the Guardian and
the Independent.

Mr. Fenby has a wealth of experience as a writer and commentator on
Chinese political, economic and social affairs. He has published five
books on China to date and his most recent book "A History of Modern
China" was chosen as one of the books of the year for 2008 by The
Economist and Financial Times.

Mr. Fenby demonstrated his profound knowledge in Hong Kong and its
early changes after the handover in his book, Dealing with the Dragon:
A Year in the New Hong Kong. Published as a diary of his days as the
Editor to SCMP, he offered a substantial and insightful account of
subtle but substantial changes that altered the culture and atmosphere
of the place which established itself as Asia's major financial hub
and one of the most cosmopolitan cities. He is currently the Director
of the China Research of Trusted Sources, a renowned research and
consultancy firm based in the UK.

In this event, Mr. Fenby will be sharing his thoughts on the the
economic, social and political development in contemporary China and
their inter-relationships. He will also be sharing his unique
experience of being the editor of SCMP after the handover in 1997.
