As China increasingly impacts on the global economy, there is a growing need for non-Chinese to get a better understanding of how Chinese think and how they do business. Such insights can also be very beneficial for the academic community as new research partnerships are forged with Chinese Universites and the numbers of Chinese students studying overseas increase.

This lecture provides some insights into how to avoid some common
misunderstandings and to improve communications. There will be plenty of
opportunity for questions and discussion.

*'Think Like Chinese'* *Wedneday 6th July, 5.30-6.30pm* *Lecture Room 4, Department of Engineering* *Helen Zhang* How do Chinese think and communicate? Why? Helen Zhang, currently a PhD student at the Institute of Manufacturing,will provide an introduction to Chinese thinking and suggest ways to work with Chinese more effectively from an academic perspective. She was born and raised in China, but having also lived and worked for 8 years in Australia and travelled internationally, she has embraced Western culture and 'blossomed'. This lecture aims to provide you with:

   - a better understanding of your Chinese colleague or student and
   - a way to communicate with them more effectively
