Haven't been feeling so well so wasn't in the mood to write anything
up but I will try to tackle it as best I can.

First game of the evening was "A Touch of Evil" hosted by Marc. We
had 5 players (Ran, Ed, Bob, Marc and myself) and played the
competitive version rather than cooperative. I had played a coop game
earlier in the week and I was not horribly impressed although we did
get a couple rules wrong and had the "wild card" character Isabella in
the mix. I call her a wild card due to the fact that she can either
be very weak or very strong. None of the other characters are that
way inherently on their own - give her 10+ investigation and she is an
unstoppable force.

Anyway I was anxious to try a competitive - and Isabella didn't get
drawn so I didn't get to see if she became more balanced in the
competitive game. We played the advanced rules. I was in an odd move
this evening and not really in the mood for serious gaming. When I
say that I mean I wasn't necessarily in the mood to WIN - I was there
to relax and enjoy some games and have a good time. Due to this mood
I took some chances I probably shouldn't have (taking on some minions
where I really wasn't at an advantage) and suffered due to poor dice
rolls. In every case I lost to the minion, which made me lose my
investigation that I had just obtained. I pretty much sat on 4 or
less investigation the entire game, which doesn't allow for you to
look at town secrets OR locate the bad guy.

I did get some good equipement in the outer areas though and had a
blunderbuss and two rifles. At the time the first boss encounter
occured I actually had 10 combat. It just didn't do me any good
because I couldn't locate the boss to take him on. Marc's wife was on
the way so I wasn't as mean as I could have been when Bob went into
the final battle with Dracula. Had we had some more time I think we
could have caused him to lose. As it was Bob won just as she came
into the store.

This is a good competitive game - looking forward to trying it again.
I imagine Ran will judge it poorly due to the fact that the board
wasn't very easy to read and there was a lot of text ;)

During our game both Nates and Andrew walked in. They started up a
second game of Touch of Evil. I think they played a cooperative game
and won.

While that game was finishing up we played a quick game of Red Dragon
Inn (minus Marc who left). This game fit my mood perfectly since I
really wasn't out to win. There really isn't much strategy to this
game as chance plays a MAJOR factor in how well you do as well as what
the OTHER players decide to do. You could simply be at the end of a
"group think" round where all three other players decide to get you
insanely drunk, or they ignore you and go for another. You simply
can't go into this game with enough ability to win. It is, plain and
simple, probably a lot like Galaxy Trucker where you are at the whims
of chance - and you have to play the game with that in mind. It is in
the playing that is fun, not the winning. There was plenty of smack
talk and we had a good time.

We wrapped up at the same time as the other Touch of Evil and Andrew
needed to play a game for a report in school so Ed, Andrew, Nate and I
played a game of Taj Mahal. The other group split off and played a
game of Witches Brew, joined by someone else that had come into the
store to play along with his girlfriend (I never caught the name).

It is a good thing I was in the mood I was because I totally bit it in
Taj Mahal. I got the first location and decided to save my cards for
certain strategic rounds - but it was a gamble I shouldn't have taken
because I ended up losing in those rounds and was left holding
nothing. I came in a distant fourth place. Andrew pulled out a
victory as he was able to make some rather large chains of palaces and
was scoring 7-8 points a round from them - whereas I was lucky to get
1 point. Ah well, so it goes.

We played another round of Red Dragon Inn afterwards and then a few of
us finished the evening with a game of Colossal Arena.

I had a great time - just what I was needing. An evening to relax,
enjoy a few games, and some good company.
