this was my second time gaming at GPP. What a great group of people! As always I had a lot of fun. If there is a boardgame in front of me - I'm having a great time!! (Shadowlord would be the ONLY exception)
First game: Touch of Evil non co-op Great game that moved at a great pace. Two of us were new so we got a quick recount of gameplay and how things worked. This helped a lot because the game, for me at least, was exciting and fun and flowed smoothly. The theme was interesting and tied in well with the gameplay. After a good amount of buildup and gameplay one of our players ended the game in dramatic style defeating Dracula in 1 1/2 rounds of battle. The first round he threw in a Powder Keg(?) and took out 2 of his three cronies and 1/2 of his points. The next round was the clencher where excellent rolls finished off the remaining life points - because of his Rifle there was no chance for the normal return attack. All in all it was fun. In comparison to Fury of Dracula I like the smaller board and quicker play of TOE. As a bonus the artwork is very nice too! Second Game: Agricola 4 players Interactive Deck I have looked at getting this game for quite some time now. Either this or Descent Journeys Into The Dark. Agricola is AWESOME! I was still thinking about things I could of done as I was falling asleep in bed replaying the game in my mind. There is a TON of variety and options and just so much going on. At some points it was overwhelming for me, and just about the time when I thought I had the 'perfect' plan another card would flip up for another round. We used the I-deck (interactive) and so it was a little more interactive than I had read on the reviews at BGG. I liked the interactivity. It added another layer to the already complex fun I was having. For new people I think it takes a little while to get use to how IMPORTANT food is. Also, for new people I wouldn't feel bad if you don't get EVERYTHING the first time. I am sure some people who have played it many times still find things that they didn't see before. It became clear that at different points in the game you really need to focus on certain things - and still try to look to your overall goal. With every positive thing you can do there seemed to be something negative that you had to weigh in and see if it was important or not. Things I learned - getting your cards to work for you at the right time and for as long as possible. BUILD! Being FIRST is good, especially at key phases of the game. BUILD! Having as many people in your house as possible is good (being able to do more per round). If there are ways to COMBO certain actions and save time then try to do that. And most importantly BUILD!! It was really fun. The group I played with was awesome and I had a great time. 25 points is what I think I finished with. With that score I am sure I finished at the bottom of the pack, but I still felt like a winner because it was such a great game. Big Thanks to Ran for helping me out! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "utah county boardgamers association" group.
