Nate Tingen and I had to chuckle the next day at the difference
between games played that evening. Nate played two games (Steam and
Galaxy Trucker) while in the meantime I was able to squeeze in 10
games being part of the other group.

While waiting for more to show up we started a game of Witches Brew
with Bob, Jeff (my brother-in-law visiting from Texas), Josh (not the
Josh playing Steam) and Alison (hope I spelled that right!). While we
were playing this game they started up Steam which pretty much left us
with our current players for the bulk of the evening as nobody else
showed up.

Witches Brew, as always, was quite fun and I ended up winning by a
couple of points. I went with the strategy of using the three potion
brews in the first round as usually most people pick the cards to
collect more ingredients in the first round and sure enough this time
it worked as I was able to pick up all three of the first potions
uncontested. It took me another couple of rounds to recover but in
the end I barely held on to the lead.

Next came Shadow Hunters in which the Hunters (Bob and Alison)
slaughtered the rest of the players around the table. We had a lot of
friendly backstabbing even before we knew what each other were so it
was just a fun session - regardless of the win/loss.

At this point I introduced Dominion as they were all interested.
Being a four player game I simply bowed out and taught for a while and
then they went at it. Jeff become the combo master and at one point
had a chain of almost 14 cards. Alas he didn't have much by way of
gold however and for all the cards he played he could still only pick
up a 5 copper cost item. Bob on the other hand started grabbing VP
cards in earnest and was doing all he could to shut down the game as
quickly as possible. In the end Bob was able to get a province
(feeling that would give him the game) and then Josh, Alison and Jeff
had one round to try to to the same. I can only speak from Jeffs view
as I was helping him but he ended up drawing 2 moats a VP card and two
action cards that didn't help at all. Thus he was shut out of being
able to buy VP cards. Bob had calculated correctly and won the game.

Steam was looking close to end so we played a couple of games of
scripts and scribes while waiting. Luck was on my side and I was able
to win both of those games. I can't say it was due to any skill.

Steam wrapped up so we swapped players around and for the rest of the
evening I played with Ran and Jeremy while Nate, Jeff, Josh, and
Alison played Galaxy Trucker (the rest of the players left at this
point).

First up was a game of Finca which I simply did NOT do well in. I
enjoyed the game as a three player game but I was investing in the
wrong fruits at the wrong time and simply locked myself out of the
game by stubbornly trying to get certain tiles only to wait a turn to
long and have them bought out from under me. I could not recover and
came in a distant third. Still a good game though.

Next we played a quick game of "Get Bit" Although I didn't win I
started getting the concept about half way into the game and at least
was able to stay alive into the last round having lost one of the two
characters I was playing rapidly.

Last we played three games of Slide 5 while waiting for Galaxy Trucker
to finish up. The first game we played with random cards from the
deck which made it interesting but while playing we found out we
should have only been playing with the cards numbered 1-34. The
second and third games were played with the correct cards. Ran still
kicked our butts all three times.

I had a great time as usual.
