Well I hope everybody had a good Thanksgiving, my family all got together
for the first time in 4 years. Did you guys get any games played? Here's
what we managed to get on the table

*Ghost Stores:* Played two games, one 4-player and one 3-player. We lost our
first game right before the incarnation of Wu-Feng showed up. We won our
3-player game against the Vampire Lord with the typical co-op shifty playing
("Oh take that back and let me do this and this then you go do that, no play
that card over here, etc"). It's a pretty fun co-op game, I liked making up
different styles of kung fu like Drunken Fist. It's not nearly as good as
Arkham Horror (but that's OK because I put AH in the adventure game category
not co-op) but it's more fun than Pandemic and not as balls out hard as Lord
of the Rings.

*Rummikub:* My dad is more of a card player but he recently discovered
Rummikub so I played a couple of games with him, my oldest brother and one
of my nephews. I was pleased to coach my nephew to victory in our first
game.

*Saboteur:* My family loves Saboteur, so of course we had to play at least
one game. We played one game of 3 rounds. In the second round my
sister-in-law and my brother had my other brother so convinced they were not
saboteurs that we all thought he was a saboteur. From there on out it got
very hard to tell who was what.

*Netrunner:* Tried to start up and learn this game several times before
managing two complete games, both of which I lost as the Corporate side. I
like it quite a bit so far, I even checked out Snow Crash from the library
to get me in the cyberpunk spirit.

*World Cup Game:* Started off with a 2-player game with my major gaming bro
with the Uruguay 1930 version to learn the rules. Then introduced to our
nongaming but competitive brother with 3-player 1930 version, then 4-player
1930 version with minor gaming brother. Then I managed to convince them all
to play the longer 2002 South Korea/Japan version on our last night with
everybody there. Everybody liked the game quite a bit but I think my
nongamer brother and minor gamer brother preferred the shorter 1930 version,
but my major gaming brother and I liked the variability of the 2002 version.
The first half of the 2002 version takes a long time to play through and
it's hard to keep track of what's going on with your 8 teams' 3 games in
each group, but it's still tense and the tension only racks up even more
once you reach the knock-out rounds. My best team was Turkey (red team), my
minor gaming brother had South Korea, my nongaming brother had both Brazil
and Germany and my major gaming brother just had a scattering of blue teams
that he played really well. He actually managed to knock out my Turkey with
England in the Group of 8 in a penalty shoot out. There were a lot of shoot
outs in the Group of 8 and beyond which was pretty exciting. In the end my
nongaming brother won with Brazil. Definitely a super fun game, I think
playing with 5-6 players would be the sweet spot for the 2002 version.
