I actually asked the SaltCon folks about GoS and they said it was a completely separate entity. He recommended that if we want to see GoS happen this summer we need to bug the organizers. Now I'm terrible with names and am not sure who that is but I'm guessing someone on these message boards knows. =)
As far as SaltCon went for Josh and I, we had a great time. I love that I was able to play games with all of the different gaming groups in the area (BGR Murray, Utah County, Games Unplugged, and some other random folks). For a recap, unfortunately I don't have quite as good a memory for games but I'll give it a go. We showed up around 9ish Saturday and I immediately got pulled into a game of St Petersburg with a couple of younger guys and a friend of mine, Amanda. Josh went off to play Spies and Spooks(See Bob's comments). It was a really close game there at the end but we were unable to finish as two of the players needed to join the PowerGrid tournament. Then Jeremy G. taught Josh, Amanda, and I the game Goa. Jeremy, being the experienced player, won handily. This is a game I need to try again before I pass judgment. I played a couple of other quick party type games that I cannot remember the name of. Josh played Toppo with Amanda, Tyler from Games Unplugged and the rep from Fred Distribution (my memory for names fails me here). He then taught us the new Railroad Tycoon card game (a beta version). Despite my aversion to Age of Steam/Steam/Railroad Tycoon, I really enjoyed the card translation of those games. We played a round of Battlestar Galactica with Andrew and 2 friends, plus Josh, myself and a couple of our friends from SLC where the Cylons (Andrew and friend) thoroughly stomped the humans. Andrew introduced us (Josh, our 2 friends, myself, Daphne from Game Night Games, and another random people) to The Adventures game which was a little too random for my taste. To round out the night, Daphne taught Josh, our 2 friends, and me Tobago, which I really enjoyed. Josh won by a fair margin but still didn't like it overly much due to lack of player interaction. Sunday we played several rounds of Shadow Hunters, a particular favorite with some people from the GU Meetup group. Then we split off into 2 groups with one group playing Frag and the other playing another round of Battlestar Galactica. All in all it was a pretty good gaming weekend. =) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "utah county boardgamers association" group.
