It ended up going 4 hours and 45 minutes with four of us.

There is only so much room in my gaming life for games of this nature
(pardon the pun) - and although it is a good one Die Macher beats it
out as far as I am concerned. I do not plan on adding it to my own
collection although I might play it should the opportunity arise and
my "mondo game timer" has reset again. The room for AP to sneak in
seems a bit higher in this one which is probably why I would rank it a
bit lower.

The difference I see in the two is that both of them have the same
"width" during your turn (ie plenty of options to choose from) but in
the case of Die Macher you only have to apply those choices over 4
elections (ie it is only about 4 layers deep). With Dominant Species
there are so many phases that impact other phases that you have to
think out ahead of time it can be paralyzing (ie it is about 10 layers
deep). My gaming sweet spot involves a lot of choice with SOME depth
of play but not TOO much.

That is why I would rather play Checkers than Chess - I really hate to
think 5 zones into the future while calculating all the different
things that could happen in each of those 5 zones.

I probably made NO sense whatsoever but there it is.
