ACK. It doesn't really help and stands in the way for the cross-compiling world: Read the last paragraph of http://sourceware.org/autobook/autobook/autobook_80.html about "hardcoded paths". So IMHO "libtool" is broken by design. It gets especially annoying if the actual command line without the `libtool --mode= ...` prefix actually works and does exactly the right thing.
