We had an rsync service? The uclibc.org and busybox.net server started life as a box named "morris" living in Erik Andersen's basement and sharing his DSL line. Then several years ago it moved to be hosted at Oregon State University's Open Source Lab. Unfortunately it's still been running the same ancient debian image that Erik stopped seriously maintaining over a year ago, and after it got hacked a couple times last month we decided to do something about it. OSUOSL has admins who are physically there (if something goes wrong with the box that takes down the ssh daemon, we can't power cycle it and they can) so it makes sense of them to admin the box. They have their own setup they like to use (some database that tracks what's installed on each box and how to reproduce it) so they had to create a fresh image and migrate the services. Eventually we'd like to "dogfood" morris, meaning get it running uClibc and busybox and such, and the logical thing to do there is run Gentoo Embedded. (No, we can't run buildroot, because that's not a distro. It doesn't have a package management system that can upgrade packages after they're installed.) OSL isn't set up for gentoo embedded yet, but in the meantime they can give us a normal gentoo image, figure out how to get all the services running on that, and then when we migrate to gentoo embedded we can move a known working config over for all the services. The mailing lists are actually moving off Morris entirely, onto OSUOSL's dedicated mailing list servers. This may hiccup a bit during the transition.
