Wow that does sound pretty big.

But if you have to replace it with a static version everytime you
upgrade, is there ever a time when you will actually run it using the
dynamic version?

Well I have the advantage of running apt on powerpc while installing
packages for use on coldfire, so I get to replace all the uclinux stuff
at once, generate a new ramdisk image and reboot the coldfire all from
a nice standard debian powerpc environment.
