Hi,

I have been experimenting with the Freescale M5235EVB for the past couple of
months since we are thinking about using this platform with uClinux on it. I
think there is a bug with the serial (QSPI) port in the linux 2.6 kernel and I
cannot find the problem. I just recompiled the new 20070130, just as I did
20060803, but the 2.6 kernel still boots displaying garbage characters on the
serial ports.
I've noticed couple of things:

- Kernel 2.6: I can still telnet to the board after boot, log in and
everything seems to work just fine and the OS is stable.
- Kernel 2.4: Both 20070130 release and 2006803 work ok - 20070130
sometimes resets unexpectedly. No problems with the serial port though.
- Kernel 2.6: I tried every possible baud rate setting on the Hyper
Terminal to no avail.
- I tried checking and comparing the source in kernel/drivers/serial and
in arch/m68knommu, but it is like looking for a needle in a haystack when you
don't know where to look.
- Kernel 2.6: Some of the characters typed from the (Hyper-terminal)
keyboard do appear to be correct. I haven't found out why - doesn't seem to be
related to their bit-wise representation. No valid characters are received back
from the Coldfire.

Anybody has any ideas where should I look?

Best Regards,

Ivica Eftimovski
