It is possible if we can add a platform dependent clocksource_register() for linux-2.6.x/kernel/time/clocksource.c . Like that of
coldfire, linux-2.6.x/arch/m68knommu/platform/coldfire/timers.c.
There is another interface, hrtimer. You may have a look at,
linux-2.6.x/Documentation/hrtimers/hrtimers.txt
