What target are you building for?

The setup of that inittab entry is most likely the one in
user/init/Makefile. And it uses /bin or /sbin depending on
whether we are compiling for a CONFIG_UCLINUX target or not.
That indeed was part of the problem (I should have been smart enough to
find out this before I posted my initial question here ;) )
I reported the inittab problem to Thomas and he already cured it in his
GIT.
