How very odd.
I ran into a very similar situation using our custom M5282 device,
using the 2.6 kernel (8.8.8 with 11 patch)
It would happen at around 4MB of data.
Okay, I found our problem.
Memory configuration.
I had an error in my memory configuration. Because file system access
consumes memory pages for filesystem cache, and there was a problem
with our memory in the middle, it caused the system to work (highmem
was OK, lowmem was okay), but then fail once it got to the bad memory
space.
Try running a simple memory test on your system and see if you can
write/read the whole range you expect.
good luck.
