IMO, one oughtn't attempt something like that on Cygwin unless
one is experienced in both Cygwin and in accomplishing the task
under Linux.
IMHO, CygWin only makes sense if someone sells a software packet that should run on Windows and so the cost of "porting" the software to CygWin can be justified. But for doing just a single project, installing a real Linux (on a separate box or e.g. via VMWare or Sun VBox) seems a lot more appropriate.
