Ok, solved the problem.

Since I had no clue I did a full reinstall of eclipse and trunk and
followed the project quickstart. This time I noticed there was a small
"More" link in the last step
(http://udig.refractions.net/confluence/display/UDIG/Running%20the%
20Main%20Application). This had info about manual launch that solved the
problem.

Now hopefully I can get some coding done =)
