You may wish to ask over on the SWT/JFACE forum and report back what you find. 
I know it is possible as I have seen calendars jface widgets and so on make use 
of the idea.

JFace Display class gave you some ability to determine screen x / y position - 
allowing you to configure your pop up "shell" into the correct location.
