Dear NG, did you ever try to measure a distance, which is not displayed completely on your displayed region? I tried today, and when i try to move the map with middle mouse button, uDig adds a new measure-point, instead of only moving the map. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be this way or if it's a bug.
If it's a bug, now you know about it. If it's a feature, how can i move without adding a measure-point? Thanks in advance ludwig
