To be honest I have no idea about how to remove the collar around the image.
I think there is a way to do so when reprojecting images, therefore I
suppose there is one even in this case.
I remember a blogpost by the Geosolutions guys that were presenting a
way to solve that, but I can't find the link right now.
Maybe one of them will jump in with the url.
