Science/Astronomy:

* Is SETI Barking up the Wrong Tree?

http://www.space.com/searchforlife/seti_thursday_060720.html

Some people mistakenly confuse a long search with a thorough one, and figure
that the lack of a SETI detection indicates that we're alone in the Galaxy.
This, however, is nonsense.

* Mystery of Explosive Star Solved

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060719_ophiuchi_nova.html

In February this year, a typically faint star located only a few thousand
light-years away flared suddenly and beamed so brightly that it was visible to
the naked eye for a few days.

* Patch of Saturn's Moon Resembles Earth

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060719_xanadu.html

New radar images of Saturn's moon Titan reveal dunes, hills, valleys and rivers
that scientist say look a lot like home.

* Radiation and Bone Loss: Deep Space Mission Concerns

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060718_radiation_bones.html

A single dose of radiation approaching what will be faced by long-term space
travelers to the Moon or Mars causes as much as a 39 percent spongy bone loss
in mice, a new study shows.

* Image of the Day: Goodnight Earth

http://www.space.com/imageoftheday/image_of_day_060720.html

The differences between two images of the Orion Nebula, one taken in optical
and the other in infrared light, are striking.

Spaceflight:

* Apollo 11 Anniversary: Heroes, Quests and Space

http://www.space.com/adastra/adastra_heroes_060720.html

37 Years ago, two Americans stepped on the Moon. Although alone when they
planted our flag, they did not claim it for themselves or even this nation,
instead, they proclaimed they were there on behalf of the entire human race.

* Discovery crew returns home to Houston

http://www.space.com/news/060719_sts121crew_home.html

The crew of space shuttle Discovery's recently ended STS-121 mission returned
home to Texas on Tuesday, where they were welcomed back by several hundred of
their co-workers, friends, family and members of the public.

* Beyond Discovery: A Soyuz-Shuttle-Station Shuffle

http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/060719_shuttle_shuffle.html

With Discovery back on Earth, NASA is confident the orbiter can be turned
around in time for a December 2006 launch, though ground crews have their work
cut out for them to redress the orbiter for that STS-116 mission.

* Falcon 1 Failure Traced to a Busted Nut

http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/060719_falcon1_update.html

A busted nut, not human error, is to blame for the fuel leak that doomed the
Falcon 1 rocket on is maiden flight, according to the findings of a government
review board chartered to investigate the March 24 launch failure.

* Virgin Galactic Aims to Fly Passengers by 2008

http://www.space.com/news/ap_060718_virgin_update.html
