Science/Astronomy:

* Bulldoze Pluto? I Don't Think So

http://www.space.com/searchforlife/seti_pluto_060831.html

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has spoken on the status of Pluto.
The only thing missing when they announced the decision at their press
conference was the “Mission Accomplished” banner. Yes, I'm afraid this matter
is about as settled as the Iraq war in 2003.

* Pluto: Down But Maybe Not Out

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060831_planet_definition.html

If you did not like Pluto's demotion, don't give up hope.

* Rare Uranian Eclipse Captured by Hubble

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060831_uranus_eclipse.html

The shadow cast by a moon as it drifted through space above the blue-green
cloud tops of Uranus was recently captured for the first time by NASA's Hubble
Space Telescope.

* Image of the Day: Bright Formations

http://www.space.com/imageoftheday/image_of_day_060831.html

This image shows the reflection nebula IC 1396, a bright star formation region
located about 3000 light years from our Solar System.

Spaceflight:

* Sky High Plans For UP Aerospace

http://www.space.com/news/060831_xprize_upaero.html

Momentum is picking up in staging the X Prize Cup, to be held October 20-21 at
the Las Cruces International Airport, New Mexico.

* Spacecraft Set to Smack the Moon This Weekend

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060831_smart-1_crash.html

A European lunar orbiter is on track to hit the Moon over the weekend.

* NASA's Shuttle Atlantis Weathers Storm at Launch Pad

http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/060831_sts115_posternesto.html

NASA's space shuttle Atlantis appears to be in good health after weathering
what is now Tropical Storm Ernesto, and is once more being primed for a
September launch at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

* First Female Space Tourist Readies for ISS Trip

http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/060830_ansari_exp14.html

Like millions of people fascinated by space, Anousheh Ansari said Wednesday she
remembers wondering as a child if somebody else like her could be out there
among the stars.

* Mars Orbiter Ready to Begin Engine Burn

http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/060830_mro_burn.html

Ground controllers are ready to perform a major maneuver today of NASA's Mars
Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO)—an “end game” tactic that puts the orbiting probe
a step closer to scientific sensor sweeping of the red planet.

* Extra Launch Day Available for Shuttle Atlantis, NASA Says

http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/060830_sts115_launchwindow.html

NASA flight controllers now have an extra day to launch the shuttle Atlantis
towards the International Space Station (ISS) this month as mission managers
added Sept. 8 among possible dates for the planned liftoff, agency officials
said Wednesday.
