Yeah I had the same issue, though the CMake build system doesn't have
this issue, so I can highly recommend that.

Right, (I assume you're Exiv2 is outdated as the lens isn't
autoselected?) however...

When I start UFRaw like this:

ufraw --lensfun=none SAM_1677.SRW

I get an image, when I manually select the lens, I still see the
image, but the view hasn't actually been updated, and no correction
has actually been applied.

When I change the zoom level (and thus the view is forcefully
updated), the image turns black again...
