We had a similar issue in darktable. There is a thread "EOS 1D Raw 
Problem" in darktable-us...@lists.sourceforge.net. This quite old camera 
seems to produce RAW files with extension TIF. The user has posted an 
example in one of his mails.

Currently for darktable there is no easy workaround other than asking 
the user to rename his file to an extension like .CRW
