Or is a simple spreadsheet the best tool for > the job? It is interesting. I thought SE 3510 had been qualified in ZFS. As understand, ZFS runs well with SE 35xx, SE61xx and SE69xx. Anyway, If you really don't want to use ZFS, you may want to give SVM a try. The other alternative is if you don't have funding issue, you may want to give VxVM (VxSF) a try, and make sure to use VxSF 4.1 MP2 or up which contains the fix for the lufs/vxio root enscapsulation I/O synchronization problem.
