Hi,

I have installed opensolaris 5.11 build 86 on a sony VAIO VGNCR-35G laptop.
I am not getting the GUI. As suggested in BOSUG I tried

 #/usr/X11/bin/Xorg -configure
 and then
#/usr/X11/bin/Xorg -config xorg.conf.new

I get the screen with my mouse and keyboard detected but no display..

it says

(EE) Screen 0 is not dri capable

So, I tried disabling dri by commenting out the load dri in xorg.conf.new

still an error shows

screens found but none have a usable configuration

Then I tried changing the drivers to

first at, then to vesa, then to vga, etc etc.

I downloaded and installed a driver that is supposed to support my ATI Radeon
x2300 graphics driver but it did'nt work from one of the sun sites.I tried with
the xorgcfg, xorgconfig etc nothing is giving me a positive lead.

Solaris 2008.05 works perfectly for me. I want to know how does it load the
graphics...
I tried creating the xorg.conf file in OpenSolaris 2008 and the GUI failed
after that. Now after I deleted that xorg.conf file and rebooted I got back the
GUI in OpenSolaris 2008.05. So I guess if it is the xorg.conf file that is
creating problem.

I tired deleting the .xorg.conf file in /etc/X11 but it does not work.

Now I have installed Solaris 5.11 build 86 and is trying to figure out hoe to
get the GUI. I got from one of the forums that it uses the same set of drivers
as OpenSolaris 2008.05 then I would like to know what might be giving me the
troubles.

I dont want any 3d effects I just want the basic GUI Desktop.

I have tried out so many solutions suggested at various forums but still I
havent got the GUI working properly.I dont know whether my understanding is
wrong but then I have tried my best to get it and is working on it.

regards
Abhi
