Hi Folks, I'd like to call for a BOSUG Meet this Saturday 30th June 2007. This will be a interesting meet. Quite recently 5 Campus Ambassadors from 5 different countries were selected for a trip to SUN's Campus in California.
They met SUN's Executive Leadership team and CEO Jonathan Schwartz and had a tour through the hallowed portals of SUN Labs R&D facilities. I'm proud to say that Anil Gulecha, a Bosug-ian, the USB boot guy, and one of the first CAs from India was selected for this privilege. He came back carrying a cool gadget. So with that background here's the agenda: 1) Anil talks about his experiences and shows some videos: http://blogs.sun.com/anilg/entry/visit_to_the_us_of 2) Anil demoes a SUN SPOT . This is one of the coooolest gadgets to have come out of SUN Labs. SPOT stand for Simple Programmable Object Technology. This is a small device that runs a miniature JVM called the Squawk VM. The JVM runs directly on the hardware with very little native code sitting in between. It has sensors and wireless capabilities and SUN SPOTs can talk to each other. It can be interfaced with any other electronic device and put to a multitude of uses. This is currently only available in the US. See here for more details: http://research.sun.com/projects/dashboard.php?id=145 http://www.sunspotworld.com/ (P.S. The second link seems to be having problems at the momment but should be up shortly). 3) Demo of GNU Parted and GParted GUI on OpenSolaris if time permits 4) I will distribute OpenSolaris Laptop Stickers and Car Stickers - Apologies for missing this out in the last meet. Forgot completely. More details about Campus Ambassador Univ. Program: http://in.sun.com/sunnews/events/2006/univ/ http://in.sun.com/sunnews/events/2006/univ/campusambassadorprograms.html See you there. Do not forget to drop me an email if you are planning to attend. Regards, Moinak.
