Broadcom NIC support is not in opensolaris by default in any distro because of legal reasons and not due to technical reasons. You may not be able to contribute this to get bundled into the distro. But what you can definitely do is to write a small script/tool that will automate the various manual steps in a painless manner for the end user. You can go a step further a provide a small nice frontend that people with preference to GUI will like. Broadcom drivers are common enough that if you can get this done for a small set of popular ones, this will be valuable to the users. -Shiv
