   BTW ask him to avoid using top on Solaris. prstat gives the same info and
   is more accurate. It also shows threads.

   Apart from this other stuff like GNU tar are readily available. For 
eg. if he
   installs Solaris Express he can just put /usr/gnu/bin and 
/usr/sfw/bin in the
   front of his path to get all the GNU commands.
