hi! one of my client wants to have a high end storage capacity. i suggested him that zfs would be the best solution. i guess clustered mode would be more precise.
here's the case study. i'm mentioning my plan below, but i might not be correct 100%. please feel free to suggest any alternatives. my thoughts: 2 machines. each machine will have the following configuration. 1 ide hd (solaris installation). 4 sata hd on 4 sata ports of atleast 500 gb each. so 4*500=2000 gb. mostly their are 3 pci slots, so i can have 3 sata raid controllers, with each having 4 sata ports, thus increasing the capacity of sata ports to 12* 500 = 6000 gb. but because i want to have them in mirror mode, so the available capacity will become half ie. 4000 gb. the same would be replicated on the other system also. now i want to combine these two machines basically storage, so that it looks like a single storage & if i add some more machines replicated like the above configuration, it should add up to the storage. if you think of a better solution in any of the above mentioned steps feel free to suggest. i've not tried this configuration yet but i guess, logically it should work. i've not worked with cluster filesystem on solaris, so it would be great if somebody could suggest how this can be achieved. regds, arun.
