If you are interested in games and a Solaris evangelist this might be a great opportunity. This company is looking for some help from the community to make this game available on Solaris and provide ongoing support.
~Joe Greetings, I'm one of the devs of an MMOFPS/RPG called Vendetta Online ( http:// vendetta-online.com ). We simultaneously release updates to our client (pretty much weekly) on Win32, MacOSX-PPC/X86, and Linux-X86/ AMD64. We can compile for FreeBSD, but we don't because the linux compatability layer works fine and there's not much demand. I'm now using NexentaCP on my main home desktop (due to interest in ZFS primarily) and we have our client working (with new native sun sound support) on this machine. So, we could easily support the platform, but the small additional time we'd have to spend before releasing each update does add up when you release as often as we do. There's also the fact that I wouldnt be able to test it at the office without building another solaris box. We're focused on a lot of other stuff that makes more business-sense than supporting additional niche platforms, so our default position is going to be not to bother. I just wanted to give the opensolaris community a chance to change our minds. It would only take a handful of people who would subscribe long-term, given solaris-support, to make it worth it, but I'm skeptical that the small demographic that likes non-consentual twitch-combat in space, intersected with the fraction of the solaris community that this message reaches will include anyone at all. ~Michael This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss at opensolaris.org
