Ben Rockwood: SmartOS: Solaris Re-envisioned for the Cloud

The February Solaris SIG event takes a look at SmartOS, a fork of
Illumos, designed specifically as a virtualization platform for the
cloud. This talk will explore the unique capabilities of SmartOS and in
what ways it differs from Solaris 10 and 11 and will also look at the
realities of day-to-day administration of a SmartOS deployment drawing
from experience with public clouds.
Ben Rockwood has been an avid Sun and Solaris enthusiast for nearly 20
years and is considered one of the influential Solaris bloggers in the
industry. He is now working as Director of Cloud Operations at Joyent,
responsible for the core operations team behind the Joyent Public Cloud
and he lives near the Silicon Valley.
