Hi folks, (Please reply only to me, so we don't pollute this list with too much IBM stuff! heh heh ;) Not sure if I asked this before, but I'm going to ask again... How the hell do I deal with an IBM P520 server whose root password is lost to the mists of time? I bought the box a while ago, but haven't found much time to actually play with it. As a result, I only know a few things... - I can connect a keyboard and mouse and monitor, and it boots all the way up into X. Of course, I don't know the password, so can't login. - There seems to be a password on the OBP stuff, which I don't know - I don't have an AIX dvd/cd anyways, but even if I did, I suspect I wouldn't be able to boot from it (being that I don't know how) - The AIX root password is not a simple to guess one. (I have tried! ;) - I'm also not able to connect to the thing using a serial port, mostly because I don't know which actual port on the box I'm supposed to connect to, nor do I know the serial line settings I'm supposed to use (or, if in fact if connecting to the serial port will even give me a console to work with that's any better/different) I did read somewhere that it should be 19200, but that's about it. I have spent only a couple of hours jacking with this (most of which was waiting for the friggin thing to initialize... and people say SPARC is slow to startup!) so there is a good chance that I'm missing simple things in my rush to achieve success without reading too much of the IBM docco (that seems to go out of it's way to insist that I should have an HMC... ;) It’s a Type 9110-51A, which I *believe* to be a
Power 520 box. Thoughts? Cheers! Nathan. |
