hmm licencing is always a mystery here .. i still think ZFS will continue to be open source and be distributed under their current licence . and hope not - some financial penalty for SUN in case they are found to be infringing laws ..

Ok, i have with me Starter Kit and Printed license agreement from Sun for its use in non production environment. I had an interesting question in my mind: Look at Section 6.0 Terms and Termination of agreement.. "...Sun may terminate agreement immediately should any software become, or in suns opinion be likely to become, subject of claim of infringement of patent, trade secret or copyright...." What will be ZFS's status considering Netapps lawsuit...? Has Sun commented on this? Many of the components in SXDE are from the projects happening at opensolaris.org In addition, SXDE also has binary components from closed sources that Sun includes based on the distribution rights that it has obtained from third parties. Hence Sun is allowed to distribute but users are not allowed to re-distribute. If one wants a opensolaris distro that they can re-distribute, look at Belenix, Nexenta, Schillix or Martux. OR build your own ! One of the reasons for project Indiana is to comeup with a distro that is legally re-distributable. cheers Shiv ps: There is nothing called OpenSolaris10. The term opensolaris is used in many interesting and confusing ways because there is no clear definition for the term.
