UNRF II hands 30-page Agenda to Hon. Eriya Kategaya

The Uganda National Rescue Front (UNRF II), the former rebel force in the West Nile region has presented its peace proposals to the Uganda government.

A 17-man delegation led by the Fronts Chairman Maj. Gen. Alli Bamuze on wednesday morning (16/10/2002)  handed over their 30-page Agenda to the 1st Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Eriya Kategaya at his office in Kampala.

According to the document, the Agenda asks the govenment among others to grant Amnesty to rebel fighters like Joseph Kony and his LRA, grant unconditional return of political leaders like Rtd. Col. Kiiza Besigye, Col. Mande and Lt. Col. Kyakabaale.

The group also wants the government to talk to the various political parties and political pressure groups. The group further wants former presidents Idi Amin Dada and Dr. Apolo Milton Obote to be returned unconditionally. In addition, the group wants Brigadier Moses Ali to be promoted.

Uganda National Rescue Front (UNRF II) in their published Agenda asks President Museveni to consider surrendering four of the 20  cabinet posts, three ministers of state portfolios and similar number in diplomatic positions, RDCs and in the public service.

Hon. Kategaya welcomed the agenda saying that the government will study it and expedite the peace process adding that the Ugandan citizens are entitled to peace.

Yumbe Resident District Commisioner (RDC) Ahmed Mustapha Doka and the District Woman MP Hon. Nusura Tiperu equally welcomed the development as a positive step to peace and urged other regions to emulate it.
