What are Africans striving for in terms of their development strategies:

A Theoretical Examination of Institutional-Anomie Theory Jon Gunnar Bernburg Br J Criminology 2002 42: 729-742. http://bjc.oupjournals.org/cgi/reprint/42/4/729.pdf a.There is a tendency for Africans to assume Western Europe sociological make up, which gave rise to advanced technologies, extensive industrial expansion, gigantic urban growth, enclosed societies based on monetary supported welfare systems structures is development! What if world trade collapsed as indeed will do when all countries have the same mean and ways of production intra-infrastructures and consumption patterns? b.Surprisingly Africans do not ask; what gave rise to the above sociological structures and configuration makeup, which triggered the psychological make of Western European and its expansion in Australia, Indian American (USA)North and south, Canada, Asia and Africa. We tend to divorce history from what is actually happening or has happened thereof. c.Africans fails to critically examine the effects of the European sociological make up; as the spread of war, drug trade, predatory urban behaviours, social disintegration among families, environmental problems, population decline and societies alike, isolation, crime etc,. What should Africans examine? 1.Technological advancement is not European: it is rather SOCIAL that is to say, technology is developed in rhythm with human necessities. Europeans had to capture land, they developed ships, and weaponry and the art of warfare, they had to plunder, at times trade, they developed the economics science, entirely based on those realities. Modern farming implements were not the first to be developed in huge industries in fact they were very simple as African farming implements, but canons, guns and means to transport them came first- and the European industry was inaugurated. Follow this trend and you misconstrue society a very disastrous trend. 2.The rise of the state in Europe was not a ultimate, final (finale = look at the greens, environmental technologies, rural development studies, alternative medicine etc.,)in human affairs and exclusively a preserve of these societies but a consequence of the facts of matter, ruling in their societies: feudal oppression of the village societies, taxed and almost marginalised- generated the present systems we call western development. People reacted to the feudal system and forced it metamorphose into a state under the conditions which Africans have only attested to under the colonial and pre-colonial period by African European supported dictators. 3.People without land for self subsistence, had to survive, eat, enjoy life, produce children, have shelter they also made up a composition of the canon fodder, on which the ruling state classes rested. European industrial culture emerged in theatrical structures to bridge the gap between the by gone eras of authentic society. Cultures are not created by the state but rather through human endeavours. Urban centres were created to cater for those needs but also to silence big mouths- ala French revolution, the Bolshevik November (October) revolution according to the Julian calendar and the welfare state. It is called cultural struggle what is cultural in it? With the coming of urban centres massive developments, whether negative or positive ( but seemingly unscientific in regard to urban pollution and social medical reports, resulted in this region. Extending its tentacles into commercial agricultural farming and science, massive construction industry and science came to be, and transport system and science as a result of economies of scale resulted ( space geography- to sustain an enclosed societyless persons crammed into urban enclaves, surviving on the industry, and their labour in the industry, those who could not fit well into the system then were as it is still the case supported on a European welfare system as a byproduct. 4.But what one doesnt ask, what about urban waste, what do people in cities do all the time, what does a welfare system cost, where does the money come from, how do people surviving on such system behave as opposed to flourishing village people i.e. in Africa, how the urban structures impact on peoples psychic , why is there a thriving market of psychiatric and legitimated psychologist, what are the consequence of extensive commercial farming, infinite urban growth and the end result of all so-called sciences connected and bonded to these structures? Africans have overlooked these structures and instead have been captivated by the ILLUSORY MAGIC OF THIS SYSTEM EFFECTS, however limited in scope, depth and human un-freedom they might generate. a.Today to maintain such a system as it is in Europe, the USA and Canada, they've to linearly generate in monetary terms huge amounts goods saleable on world markets, in return create corresponding consumption patterns and trade structures. Exactly the same structure as those, which generated the military might, ruthless trade, mindless technologies, curtail some elementary human freedoms, promote expansive urban enclaves, increased agricultural subsidies and further agro- technological advancement (Biotech & Genetically modified seeds and manipulation etc.,), hold population increase and corresponding futile demographic sciences, promote desrimnative structure the raise to racialism, a point of human self destruction. b.The above points in the later period, refereed to as POST MODERNISM)are generating; rapid urban decay due to an ever decreasing world trade. Whereby the same countries dominated by predatory systems; massive unemployment among urban and suburban dwellers has arisen, destitution and urban misery ensures, homelessness(unemployment) family break down as entire cultural futures are legally acceptable for no solution insight, today men marry men , as a result of communication structures between people collapse, love is called pay-as-you earn to get it otherwise is hate, cultural disintegration extending to nucleus families and fatherless children is ever rising, generating biomedicine in manipulative reproductive systems or bottled children is all right, massive narcotics and drug abuse among the people, so oppressed and compressed by the system, desperate yearning for the pulse of freedom, moral and ethical degeneration are legal questions not society issues, so is the decline of the church and general religion, expansion of a police state and oppressive laws are constant parliamentary debates, troublesome systems like synoptically monitoring, pornography, some aspect of criminal structures, selling bodies like prostitution (red light districts, west end, New York brothel) among wo/men are becoming legally admissible. c.A crisis has emerged from what is called western type of development- population decline, total industrial collapse, unsustainable urban wages and costs, major environmental concern without a solution NOW IT POST MODERNISM. Questions 1.What is society development define in concrete terms with practical answers. 2.What is science and the products of science? 3.Explain in concise and concrete terms what African development is , and it should be. 4.What is difference between social, society and state? 5.What do your understand or consider to be moral, ethical, religious as oppose to science 6.Is society constructed as opposed to state and therefore is the state the same as society? __________ bwanika Logon & Join in ug-academicsdb discussion list http://www.coollist.com/subcribe.html List ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Your Email address: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ url: http://uhpl.uganda.co.ug http://pub59.ezboard.com/fugandamanufacturersassociationfrm1
