Probe documents origins, Government urged CHIEFS yesterday urged the Government to investigate
the origins of a document alleging a systematic plan by the ruling Zanu-PF party
to exterminate all Ndebeles.
The traditional leaders said there was no way British and American intelligence officers could have crafted the document without the help of locals. They were speaking at a meeting with the Minister for Special Affairs in President Mugabes Office, Cde John Nkomo, in Harare. The President of the Chief Council, Chief Jonathan Mangwende, said it was important for the Government to establish the real authors of the document for the nation to be aware of the forces that did not want to see the country progress. "We are aware that although we are all Zimbabweans there are some amongst us who are just black in colour but British and Americans in thinking and those are the ones that we think were behind the crafting of the document," said Chief Mangwende. There was need for traditional leaders to effectively work together to prove that they belonged to one nation and were united under its leadership. Chief Marisa of Kwekwe said people who were circulating the document were enemies of Zimbabwe who wanted to evoke tribal hatred and disharmony. "The origin of the document should be established. How can people say such things? "This thing about Shonas wanting to kill Ndebeles is news to us," said Chief Marisa. Chief Mathe of Gwanda said the document should instead inspire Zimbabweans to remain united. The Mulindwas
