ATLEAST six people were reportedly killed last Sunday night by rebels of the
Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Bar-Ocok village, Okwang sub-county in Otuke
county, Lira district.

Reports indicate that some of the dead were shot while others were beaten to
death using clubs.

Lira chief administrative officer Dan Odwedo Ochieng on Monday confirmed the
incident but did not give details.

"Yes I have received information that at least six people were killed by LRA
rebels on Sunday though the Okwang LC5 councillor, James Arutu, had initially
said two civilians were killed," he said.

The deputy RDC, Johnson Butamanya, confirmed the presence of the rebels in
Okwang but said he had not yet heard about the killings.

"We got wind of the LRA rebel presence in Okwang sub-county. Only seven of
the rebels have been cited in the area," he said. Ends
