Somalia cited as source of missiles-Daily Nation 3/12/2002-Nairobi-Kenyain LONDON Western intelligence agencies say Somalia is the most likely source of the two Sam-7 missiles fired at the Israeli jet as it left Mombasa. Moreover, Israeli intelligence officials were yesterday reported saying the missiles could be linked to last year's attempt in Prague, the Czech Republic, to shoot down an aircraft carrying then Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres. The serial numbers on the missile launchers could be linked to two others found at a runway at Prague airport in November, 2001. The missiles fired at Mombasa did not work, according to some sources, because they had not been well-maintained, but others cited lack of expertise. Czech officials believe the missiles were part of a batch said to have been manufactured in May, 1974, in Moscow. |
