Cheeyes offices closed over rent
By Richard M. Kavuma.
Teddy Sseezi-Cheeyes offices that also housed his Uganda Confidential weekly were last week closed over non-payment of rent.
The offices, located on Katatumba Suites (formerly Blacklines House) on Colville Street, were shut down on Monday.
However workers continued working on last Fridays edition of the paper, using another entrance to their offices. This was soon discovered and also closed.
When The Monitor visited Katatumba Suites Wednesday, Cheeye's offices on third floor were locked with large padlocks and a metallic chain.
Cheeye is also the director for economic monitoring in the Internal Security Organisation (ISO).
Katatumba Suites Acting Manager Keity Lubna declined to comment on the issue and referred The Monitor to her companys lawyer, Patrick Mugisha.
Mugisha said the matter is before court and that he could not say much. He however said that Sseezi-Cheeye had been given enough time but he failed to clear the bill.
Cheeye said he was using the closure to reorganise the paper.
Since we started 12 years ago, we have never re-organised, I have even never had a holiday, he said. But we shall definitely come out again soon.
