The second deputy premier and minister for disaster preparedness, Brigadier
Moses Ali, has said the Government's efforts to talk peace with the Lord's
Resistance Army (LRA) rebels were being jeopardised by the rebels who are
adamant to the peace initiatives.

He said the Government wants the war in northern Uganda to end and had
instituted a committee headed by Lt. Gen. Salim Saleh to negotiate peace with
LRA leader Joseph Kony and his rebels.

"Kony has no courtesy even to appoint a committee. Now, whom do we meet to
negotiate with?" he asked.

Ali made the remarks while addressing residents of Jinja during a function
were he received several items donated by the public to assist the people
suffering due to the war in northern Uganda.

The function was held at Jinja Town Hall

He said several dignitaries had suggested dialogue as the only means to end
the northern war.

"But the perpetrators we are supposed to dialogue with have even threatened
to kill Archbishop John Baptist Odama and Bishop Ochola, the chairman and
vice-chairman of the Acholi Religious Leaders' Initiative," Ali said.

"So we must know who is against peace in our country," he added. Ends
