                 LINDA Nakitende, 18, has
                 delivered a set of healthy
                 triplets but she is not
                 celebrating.

                 Nakitende, who is lying
                 helplessly in Mulago hospital
with her three babies, on Monday
said the father of the children,
                 Ahmed Nsubuga, disappeared three
months ago, as soon as doctors
told him that she had a
                 complication that required a
                 caesarean operation.

?I do not have clothes and milk.
I am weak and doctors tell me I
do not have enough water in my
                 body. They have prescribed some
medicine but I do not have the
money to buy it. I do not know
where to go when I leave the
                 hospital,? she said.

Nakitende was speaking to The New
Vision from her bed in Ward 5B,
where she has been for three
                 months.

Nurses who have been taking care
                 of Nakitende said, ?She depends
on us for everything from food,
                 and clothing, to medical
attention. Now that she has given
birth and the babies are in good
                 condition, she should leave the
                 hospital,? a nurse who preferred
                 anonymity said.

                 The nurse added that Nakitende,
                 who delivered after an operation,
                 needed proper attention and
                 routine medical check-ups which
                 she cannot afford.

?He is unemployed and has another
                 wife in Buziga,? Nakitende said
of the father of her children.

                 Robert Akankwasa, who has been
                 helping Nakitende, confessed that
he could not afford to bring up
                 the children and appealed for
                 assistance from the public.

Doctors said the children were in
                 good condition, although they
                 were concerned about how their
                 lives would be outside the
                 hospital.
