UPC Shuns 2006 Elections

THE Chairman Presidential Policy Commission of the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC), Dr. James Rwanyarare, has said UPC will not participate in the 2006 presidential elections.
He also dismissed Dr. Col. (rtd) Kizza Besigye�s Reform Agenda as a �small matter� on a futile mission to reform the Movement.
Rwanyarare was responding to questions at a press conference he addressed at the UPC headquarters in Kampala yesterday.
He said he had told the Reform Agenda people that they could not reform the Movement.
�The Movement is Museveni�s party. It�s tailor made. I told Beti Kamya (the group�s publicity secretary) you can never be smart in a borrowed suit,� he said.
He added, �For us in UPC, the Reform Agenda is a small matter.�
He said the most important matter in Uganda was solving the political equation.
A journalist had asked whether UPC was with Reform Agenda in condemning the Government for allegedly harassing their supporters.
Rwanyarare also questioned the rationale of UPC registering as a party if it was not going to engage in politics.
